The Research Paper

My research paper will focus on the deforestation of the rainforest of the Amazon. It will also focus on what are the economic and social reasons of deforestation, and the impacts on global rain patterns, lastly, it will report how deforestation affects indigenous communities by studying the traditions and daily life of the Waimiri-Atroari tribe.

I am writing on this topic because I have always been interested in learning more about indigenous communities, I think this paper will give me the opportunity of studying some of the traditions, beliefs, and way of living of these communities.

Some of the sources that I intend to use for this paper are UN reports. I am also considering news articles from BBC news, and different case studies made by different organization, such as the Rain Forest Foundation. I have also found articles in JSTOR, but I am not sure if I am going to use them.

I am not sure about my thesis yet, but I think it will be based on the following aspect: environmental, social, and economic impacts of the deforestation of the Amazon

It is a great topic that you have. However, I think that you are going to have some difficulties with the indigenous tribes because there are some many. Mostly because the Amazons is really big and it covers parts of different countries in South America. I also wanted to get more familiar with the tribes I was planning on becoming a doctor to help these poor people.

Your topic sounds interesting and a new take on the issue of deforestation. Focusiiing on the impact that it has on the indigenous people would be the catcher for me. I agree with you that the lives of indigenous people are facinating to me and it would draw me into the paper. It then would introduce me to the environental problems they face. I say that is a good way to get people to pay attention.

You seem to have a clear idea of what you want to write about—in general. A suggestion about the thesis: it will be easier to write once you know WHO you are writing to and what your purpose in writing the paper is. Do you want to convince someone of something? Do you want to explain a problem to someone? WHO would this someone be? Where do you envision this paper read or presented?

Also, you may want to make sure you understand the HISTORY of the region. Does the history help explain part of the problem or the problems with possible solutions? For an extended example of what I mean by history, see Fidel’s blog. If this concept of history does not apply to your paper, don’t use it.

BTW--have you seen the film _The Emerald Forest_? It's a work of fiction, but still...
